Summary
In recent years, most Android brands have launched “Ultra” versions of their flagship phones, packing the best camera hardware possible. Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi often collaborate with legendary camera brands like Hasselblad, Zeiss, and Leica for image tuning.
Samsung and Google, however, take a different approach — relying heavily on computational photography and software optimizations instead of third-party branding.
To see how these strategies compare, I tested the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra against the Oppo Find X8 Ultra. The results were eye-opening.
Note: Oppo devices aren’t officially sold in the US, and the Find X8 Ultra doesn’t support most US carriers.

Rear Camera Comparison
1. Primary Camera
-
Samsung: Brighter, more saturated, and visually balanced.
-
White balance feels accurate, and text/detail retention is strong.
-
Oppo: More natural skin tones and dynamic range but occasional cool tint in greenery and less consistent white balance.
-
In some scenes, Oppo’s punchy contrast works beautifully, but it can also lose highlight detail.
Winner: Samsung for consistency, Oppo for occasional “wow” shots.
2. Ultra-Wide
-
Oppo: Brighter, warmer, more detailed in shadows, and less distortion at the edges.
-
Samsung: Cooler tones, slightly more dramatic look but flatter overall. More stretching at the edges.
Winner: Oppo — better exposure balance and distortion control.
3. Zoom Performance
3x Zoom:
-
Samsung handles highlights better and retains more detail in bright clothing and flowers.
-
Oppo offers a shallower depth of field but sometimes blows out highlights.
30x Zoom:
-
Oppo delivers sharper, more detailed results with visible textures on distant objects.
-
Samsung holds up well but softens at high zoom.
Winner: Oppo, especially at extreme zoom levels.
4. Indoor Lighting
-
Oppo: Warmer, more vibrant shots with rich colors. Some softness in fine details.
-
Samsung: Cooler tones, sharper texture detail, especially in fabrics and small objects.
Winner: Tie — depends if you prefer warmth or sharpness.
5. Night/Low-Light
-
Oppo: Brighter, more balanced exposure, better highlight control, and minimal noise.
-
Maintains detail across the frame.
-
Samsung: Warmer look but more noise and overprocessed highlights. Darker areas can lose detail.
Winner: Oppo — cleaner, more natural low-light shots.
Verdict: Which Camera Should You Pick?
-
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Best for daylight consistency, natural colors, and reliable indoor performance. Excellent dynamic range and detail retention.
-
Oppo Find X8 Ultra: Best for low-light photography, extreme zoom clarity, and vibrant ultra-wide shots. Daylight performance is nearly on par with Samsung, with occasional standout results.
My Pick: The Oppo Find X8 Ultra.
While Samsung wins on consistency, Oppo edges ahead with superior zoom, low-light capability, and lively ultra-wide performance.
