Apple is widely expected to unveil an updated MacBook Pro with its new M5 chip later this year or in early 2026.
However, the model that many fans — myself included — are eagerly awaiting is the long-rumored OLED MacBook Pro.
Since the launch of the M1-series MacBook Pro in 2021, the laptop’s design has remained largely the same, with only periodic processor upgrades.
The most notable recent change came with the late-2024 M4-series, which introduced a nano-texture display option for reduced glare.
The upcoming OLED MacBook Pro is expected to be the biggest design refresh in years, featuring an OLED display that delivers superior color accuracy, higher brightness, and deeper contrast compared to current LCD panels.
OLED technology could also improve energy efficiency, potentially extending the already impressive battery life of the MacBook Pro.
Originally rumored for a 2026 release, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now suggests it may debut between late 2026 and early 2027, meaning fans might have to wait a little longer.
A More Affordable MacBook Could Arrive First
While OLED MacBook Pro rumors point to a longer wait, Apple could have another laptop coming sooner — a budget-friendly MacBook.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this new model might feature the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro rather than an M-series processor, helping to reduce costs.
DigiTimes reports that this affordable MacBook will have a 12.9-inch display and could enter mass production by Q3 2025, suggesting a possible launch before the end of that year.
Price expectations range from $599 to $699, significantly undercutting the $999 starting price of the 13-inch MacBook Air.
This move would mirror Apple’s iPad pricing strategy, offering MacBooks at multiple price tiers.
Potential color options include yellow, blue, silver, and pink, giving it a more playful look compared to the MacBook Air.
If priced as rumored, this entry-level MacBook could become an attractive choice for students, casual users, and budget-conscious buyers, while the OLED MacBook Pro remains a premium option for professionals and creatives.
