Spotify’s seamless cross-device playback has long set the standard for music lovers who switch between their phone and PC without missing a beat.
Now, YouTube Music is beginning to catch up, introducing a long-awaited feature that lets users resume playback across devices.
As reported by Android Authority, the latest version of the YouTube Music app (version 8.26.51) finally supports cross-device playback syncing.
This means you can start a track on your PC or tablet and continue exactly where you left off on your iPhone or Android phone—a huge step forward for Google’s streaming service.
The update brings a new “Resume” button, which appears in the Speed Dial section of the app—a space that displays your most frequently played songs and playlists.
Once you tap the song, the Resume feature kicks in, picking up from the last playback point without needing to search for it again.
YouTube Music Still Trails Spotify in User Experience
Despite this upgrade, YouTube Music’s approach still feels a bit clunky compared to Spotify.
Unlike YouTube Music, Spotify doesn’t require any extra taps—just open the app and it instantly knows where you left off.
More impressively, Spotify Connect allows you to control music remotely between devices, letting you adjust volume or change tracks from your phone while listening on a desktop or smart speaker.
That kind of fluid experience is still missing from YouTube Music. For now, you’ll need to manually tap the Resume button, and there’s no remote control option yet.
But for YouTube Premium users—who get Music bundled in—it’s an encouraging start.
If Google continues refining the app with features like Spotify Connect and smarter syncing, YouTube Music might finally become a viable all-in-one solution for audiophiles.
