arimi Natigia, Operations Manager of the ACRE Africa Microinsurance Network, stated that the sector requires more locally tailored products—according to the network’s annual report on microinsurance—such as coverage for natural disasters and agricultural insurance. She added that the market needs about 4 to 5 years to achieve the desired outcomes and profitability from this insurance activity.
Her remarks came during a discussion on the importance of data availability and market research to drive growth in the microinsurance sector, held on the second day of the 4th Microinsurance Conference and the 10th Regional Conference on Insurance Inclusion in Africa and the Middle East (AfCII) 2025. She emphasized the need for nominations and the use of modern tools to reach customers, noting it takes 4 to 5 years for the sector to generate profits.
She also revealed the difficulty in reaching marginalized groups who lack access to services, adding that in Egypt, 79.1% of companies rely on company representatives and insurance brokers for sales, highlighting the significant role of agents. She pointed out a growing trend toward adopting innovative solutions.
