The social media site X, which used to be called Twitter, is still working on adding a negative voting tool to help comments to posts rank higher.
The company owned by Elon Musk hasn’t said for sure what its plans are, but recent hints suggest that the negative voting feature might look like a “Angry” button instead of the usual downvote icon seen on sites like Reddit.
TechCrunch says that code references to the new feature were found in the iOS X app. These references show that the button will look like a “broken heart” next to the “like” heart, which is a clear reference to the “no vote” choice.
Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, it was known that the company had tried out a negative vote tool in 2021. Twitter tried putting “upvote” and “downvote” buttons next to each post in that previous test.
In the new test, however, the site only plans to add a “no vote” button.
This change is meant to move answers that don’t get as many likes to the bottom of the thread and move replies that do get more likes to the top.
TechCrunch said that the new feature might make people less likely to post things that are meant to make people angry, which would lower the number of posts that lead to bad interactions through the “Angry” button.
