Three Sainsbury’s cafés in Suffolk are poised to close as the supermarket chain unveils fresh plans to revamp its eat-in, take-away, and home delivery food and beverage offerings.
The retailer will join with Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), which owns the Caffe Carluccio’s, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Ed’s Diner, and Slim Chickens brands, to build 30 more restaurant hubs in stores as part of the new plans.
In addition, executives said that 30 Starbucks locations will open in supermarkets as the company shutters 200 cafés across the country.
The following Suffolk cafés will close in the spring:
Sudbury Haverhill, Ipswich, Hadleigh Road
The cafés at the Warren Heath, Bury St Edmunds, and Stanway stores will remain open.
“As we go through this period of transformation, we have taken the tough choice to close 200 of our cafés next month,” said Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s chief executive officer.
“We’ve spoken with all of our colleagues who will be impacted by these changes today, and we’re fully dedicated to assisting them in any way we can during this difficult time.”
