Because of a scarcity of parts, Chevrolet Corvette manufacturing has been halted this week.
Because of the temporary components shortage, General Motors has reduced the first and second shifts at the Corvette facility in Bowling Green, Ky., according to GM spokesperson Trevor Thompkins.
In order to prevent additional disruptions in production, “our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with suppliers.”
It is believed that production will restart on Monday.
Even though General Motors failed to specify which component was in low supply, spokesperson Dan Flores verified that the disruption was not caused by a scarcity of semiconductor chips. According to him, no other General Motors factories are experiencing parts-related downtime this week.
Chevrolet sold 33,041 Corvettes last year, a 53 percent increase over the previous year.
