FIFA, the world’s governing body, said on Thursday that Ukraine’s 2022 World Cup play-off with Scotland will be on June 1. This is because the match was moved because of the Russian invasion.
For the winner of the match at Hampden Park in Glasgow, they’ll play Wales in Cardiff on June 5 to see if they can make this year’s final in Qatar.
FIFA had to change the original match date because Ukraine wanted to play on March 24, but Wales, Scotland, and Austria, who the Welsh beat in their play-off, were also behind them. The Welsh won their play-off against Austria.
On the same day, FIFA also said that Poland, who were supposed to play Russia in their play-off, had a bye and would play the winner of Sweden vs. Czech Republic on March 29.
Poland eventually beat Sweden to make it to the finals.
Russia had been kicked out of the World Cup after being banned from all international competitions “until further notice” by FIFA and UEFA, which are both part of the FIFA group.
They take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
