Summary
Movie Streaming Apps .. Thousands of free streaming movies are at your fingertips with this selection of movie applications. I’ve personally tried each of these apps, but some are better than others (see why when you read on). Comedies,

family pictures, action flicks, documentaries, and a ton of other movies will be available for you to see. In actuality, there is something for everyone!
1- YouTube
There is a fantastic selection of free movies on YouTube. To locate full-length movies that are OK to watch, you don’t need to browse through strangers’ profiles because the company curates its own list.
Just go to the Movies & TV page on YouTube to find the best free movies. It’s that simple. You can peruse movies labeled as action, horror, science fiction, drama, comedy, and so on. All of the standard categories are covered. An Independent segment is also included.
Try looking through our list of the top free movies on YouTube this month if you’re having trouble finding what you’re looking for on the platform. Additionally, there are stations like Timeless Classic Movies and Maverick Movies that are devoted to free movies.
As might be expected, a wide range of gadgets and applications, including Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, iOS and Android mobile devices, and Android TV, can stream YouTube movies.
What We Like
- YouTube-provided list of free movies.
- Films are organized into genre sections.
- No ads for Premium subscribers.
What We Don’t Like
- Can’t sort the free movies by popularity, year, or date added.
- Search tool includes paid movies.
2- Tubi
Although this app’s design is nearly exact to that of Tubi’s website, it’s incredibly user-friendly due to its excellent mobile optimization. The app offers the same categories as well as a search function, and each movie cover is large enough to view without tapping on it. Tens of thousands of films and television series are available for selection.
Selecting a film will direct you to its description page, which includes information on the genre, duration, release date, and other films you might find interesting. “Like” or “dislike” a movie to instruct the app on what to suggest to you going forward.
Tubi’s amazing curated collections, such Cult Classics, Only Free on Tubi, and Highly Rated on Rotten Tomatoes, are one of the reasons I’ve selected it as one of the top apps for free movies. You can start watching right now without requiring a user account, which is an extra perk.
In addition to tablets and phones, Tubi is compatible with smart TVs and streaming devices.
What We Like
- Movies are in their own list, separate from shows.
- High quality films.
- Provides trailers.
- Identifies when a movie is about to go away.
- Includes a kids category and live TV.
What We Don’t Like
- Can’t sort the genre lists.
3- Prime Video (Freevee)
Although it may not seem like it belongs on our list, Amazon Prime Video has a whole section of the app dedicated to listing just the movies and TV shows that you can watch for free. We refer to this service as Freevee.
I particularly enjoy the way these movies are structured. You may browse popular and recently uploaded movies using the standard categories, as well as genre-specific lists for comedies, dramas, and other genres. However, you can further filter the results by genre and subtitle language inside each list.
Additionally, I’ve come across helpful compilations like Freevee Originals and Movies of the Month.
Freevee is accessible via a web browser and as a TV app, similar to the majority of movie apps.
There is a specific Freevee app, however the links below are for the Prime Video app. The Freevee app is fine if you don’t want to see rent/buy alternatives, but I prefer Prime Video because it has greater sorting options.
What We Like
- Properly separates movies from TV shows.
- Every category list can be filtered for relevant browsing.
- Includes trailers.
- App-wide search includes free filter toggle.
What We Don’t Like
- Must have an Amazon account.
4- Pluto TV
When I’m not sure what to watch, I like to launch Pluto TV and browse the free movie selection. With a guide and something always playing live, it functions similarly to cable TV, which helps to reduce some of the decision anxiety associated with these other apps.
This page offers two viewing options. The service, which resembles cable TV, plays content continuously. Even several movie networks simply play back-to-back movies all day long.
Some movies I’ve seen mentioned in my guide include Little Monsters, Orange County, Equilibrium, 12 Angry Men, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Labor Day. These should give you a sense of the kind of movies you can find here.
Using an on-demand movie streaming service is the other approach. It’s simple to switch between the two because the software clearly distinguishes between them. If you’d like greater latitude in selecting your next movie, this is the place to be. It’s simple to view movies that are trending, newly added, and well-liked, as well as movies categorized by genre.
Pluto TV is available to stream in a number of ways. Although I occasionally stream from this location using the Android and iOS mobile app, I much prefer the TV app because it suits a larger screen.
What We Like
- Watch movies while they’re playing live on TV.
- Has on-demand movies that you can watch over and over.
- Works on lots of devices.
What We Don’t Like
- Has non-movie channels; can be overwhelming if you only want movies.
- Can’t re-watch a film unless it’s on demand.
- Only a handful of movie channels.
5- Vudu
This one is well-known for its collection of purchaseable films, but if you don’t mind the odd commercial, Vudu offers thousands of free films to stream, complete with trailers.
It’s simple to watch only the free selections; simply select the Free option from the menu or look for movies that bear the FREE WITH ADS sticker. From there, you may sort through all of the movies according to which ones are new this week, which are the most watched, or which belong to a particular genre.
Another option is to browse through all of Vudu’s free movie selection on their website, then use the app to look up a certain movie to view it on your smartphone.
Curated lists such as Top 200, Hidden Gems, All-Time Movie Favorites, Captivating Dramas, LOL Comedies, Blast From the Past, Disaster Strikes, and Aliens and Outer Space are some other useful resources I like to use while looking for something to stream.
I’ve viewed Vudu movies on Roku, Chromecast, and the apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Apple TV can run it as well.
What We Like
- Lots of high quality movies.
- Clearly differentiates free from paid.
- Adds new titles often.
- Organize favorites in custom lists.
- Parental control options.
What We Don’t Like
- Free movies are often removed.
- Must log in.
6- Filmzie
Small studios and indie filmmakers are the target audience for Filmzie. When looking for something completely fresh, it’s my first choice.
appreciate other applications, it has the standard genre categories, but I really appreciate how Filmzie arranges its selection of movies. Cuddle-Up Comedies, Undiscovered Gems, Top Rated on IMDb, and Directed by Women are a few examples.
The program has a really nice UI, is easy to use, and doesn’t even require you to create an account in order to begin streaming. Both iOS and Android may use it.
What We Like
- Adds new movies regularly.
- Interesting genres to pick from.
- No user account necessary.
- Includes movie trailers.
- The ads support the filmmakers.
What We Don’t Like
- Can’t sort any genre list.
- Occasional streaming problems.
7- Redbox
Redbox offers free on-demand movies that you can see via their smartphone app. To access all of the ad-supported movies you may view online, simply select WATCH FREE from the menu.
The way the titles are arranged is one of the reasons I believe this is one of the finest free movie applications. It’s simple to observe which movies have just been added to the collection, which ones are likely to leave the free area, and which ones are the most well-liked free films. By genre, they are arranged as well.
iPad, iPhone, and Android devices can use the software. These free films are also available for streaming on Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV.
What We Like
- High-quality movies.
- Helpful organization.
- No need to sign in.
What We Don’t Like
- Can’t search through the free movies only.
- Relatively few genres to choose from.
- Can’t sort genre lists.
8-Crackle
In addition to a standard web browser, Crackle supports almost any device that can be imagined, including the majority of smart TVs, gaming consoles, streaming players, and all popular mobile devices.
The videos stream smoothly, and the UI is simple to use. Watching movies and TV series doesn’t need logging in, although it is an option if you’d like.
The ability to sort and filter the results is something that many movie applications don’t offer. It’s good that Crackle allows you to filter by genre, sort by title, and see the date that the movies were introduced to the app, even if I believe more should be done to make it even better.
This software is compatible with several platforms, such as Android, iPad, and iPhone.
What We Like
- Lots of movies.
- All films have captions.
- Works on lots of devices.
- You don’t have to log in.
What We Don’t Like
- Too simple of a search tool.
- Can’t sort by popularity.
- Few unique categories to pick from.
9- Filmrise
With the Filmrise app, you can view even more free films and television series. Every day, they offer fresh material in documentaries, action, horror, criminal, and drama categories. Animals, biopics, coming-of-age, animated movies, cops and robbers, and action comedies are a few other genres.
Neither a user account nor a sign-up are required in order to view movies from this app or to make your own watchlist and save content for later. On every movie page, there are associated videos to help you discover other content you might enjoy.
The majority of devices, including iOS and Android ones, Xbox One, and Roku, can watch films via Filmrise.
What We Like
- Start watching immediately (no need to sign up).
- Has movies and TV shows.
- Simple, clean app design.
- Unique genres.
What We Don’t Like
- Lacks sorting options within each genre.
- Left-to-right scrolling.
- No trailers.
10- Popcornflix
You may view free movies on Popcornflix, another free movie app, without using your computer. This one used to be higher on my list, but a few years ago’s UI revisions made it a little more difficult to use.
This software clearly distinguishes between movies and TV shows, in contrast to certain others. Once you’re on the movies page, select a genre to help you focus your selection until you discover what you want to see. There are documentaries, thrillers, action, drama, horror, sports, crime, and sci-fi films, as well as intriguing categories like Fight Night, Based on True Stories, Dark Forces Unleashed, and Mobster Movies.
iPhone, iPad, Android, Roku, and Apple TV are among the devices that enable Popcornflix movie streaming.
What We Like
- Ads are usually fairly short.
- Includes popular movies.
- TV shows stay in a separate area than the movies.
- Subtitle and language options.
What We Don’t Like
- Can’t sort genre lists by popularity.
11- The Roku Channel
Another place I go for free movies is the Roku Channel. Although there are many genres to choose from and it’s simple to watch the movies on your phone or TV, the app isn’t all that engaging because it looks a lot like Roku’s boring website.
Finding new releases, highlighted and suggested movies, and appropriate categories—like Holiday Comedies and Cozy Autumn Movies—at particular seasons of the year is simple.
There’s also a live TV section with movie-playing stations. It’s a nice location to come if you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for, though obviously your selections are more limited than with the on-demand flicks.
If you own a Roku device, this app is very helpful as it functions primarily as a remote for the device. However, one is not necessary to view movies here. Both Android and iPhone may use it.
What We Like
- Recommends similar movies you might like.
- Highlights movies leaving soon.
- Also has live TV and on-demand TV shows.
What We Don’t Like
- Requires a user account.
- Not as user-friendly as other apps (e.g., horizontally scrolling).
- Doesn’t isolate free films from ones that cost.
- Can’t sort within a category.
- Movies are mixed in with TV shows.
12- Yidio
Yidio is not so much an app for watching free movies as it is a streaming directory. It follows that you are unable to watch anything straight from this app. Rather, it serves as a helpful guide that indicates the precise location of free movies available on the internet.
To be clear, this is primarily a search engine for free films. Numerous filters are available to help you narrow down the list, including debut date, MPAA rating, IMDb rating, genre, and even the ability to hide films you have previously watched. You’ll be informed of the free online movie streaming location as soon as you select a video to view.
Having said that, you’ll be prompted to install additional applications like Crackle or Vudu because the movies on this page aren’t really housed on Yidio’s website. But the option to filter by installed app is a really useful function. This makes it possible for you to locate movies inside the applications that are currently installed on your smartphone.
Android, iPad, and iPhone are among the supported devices.
What We Like
- Helps find free movies all over the web.
- Lots of filtering options to find your next favorite movie or TV show.
- Hide movies marked as seen.
What We Don’t Like
- You need other movie apps installed to watch anything.
- Not everything you see is free.
- Sometimes incorrectly identifies films as free.
13- Kanopy
The free movies on Kanopy can only be accessed with a library card from a compatible library. After logging in, you may enjoy thousands of free movies ad-free straight from your smartphone.
You may search for adventure movies, animal-themed movies, short films, and more by genre browsing. Each movie includes a rating, a summary, and a cast list. Every movie has related videos below it to help you discover other movies you might enjoy.
You may access the dedicated Kanopy Kids section of the app through the menu. There, you can only see kid-friendly films and, if necessary, install parental restrictions.
Although this app is free and has the fantastic feature of having no advertisements, I give it the lowest ranking on my list of free movie apps since it isn’t accessible to everyone as these other options are.
The software is compatible with Android, iPad, iPhone, and other devices.
What We Like
- Ad-free app.
- Includes a section of just kids movies.
- Can turn on captions and parental controls.
What We Don’t Like
- Must have a library card.
- Few genres to pick from.
