The groups will also develop an internship programme to aid in the promotion of job prospects at franchised dealerships, such as roles in sales, service, financing and insurance, digital marketing, or parts and accessories.
Candidates for the internships will be recruited from historically Black colleges and universities, minority-serving institutions, and universities with a diverse student body, among other places.
Will Green, president of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, said in a statement that “we have a serious lack of automotive technicians working within franchised stores.” It is an exciting moment in our industry, and we want a well-trained workforce to not only sell automobiles but also to work in service departments at dealerships, diagnosing problems, educating clients, and making repairs.
Green stated that the cooperation with the league will provide dealers with “access to a pool of potential workers to assist in filling the hole.”
He went on to say that the state dealers association is “prepared to engage with the Urban League to recruit, train, and hire more women and a more diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we serve.”
According to Cravins: “The apprenticeship programme will undoubtedly have a positive impact on some people’s life. I believe that the internship programme will have a positive impact on people’s lives. This is a strategy for bringing about generational transformation.”
