An alleged assault is being investigated by Merseyside Police following an incident in which Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to break a fan’s phone.
The video was published on social media, along with comments saying that he shattered the device as he walked off the field after his team’s 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.
Afterwards, Ronaldo, 37, issued an apology on social media.
Goodison Park was the scene of a “alleged attack” on Saturday, according to Merseyside Police, who said they were looking into the accusations.
In a statement, they stated that they were in contact with both Manchester United and Everton.
When the players were leaving the field at 2.30pm, it was claimed that a boy had been assaulted by a member of the away team as they were leaving the field,” they said.
“Investigations are presently underway, and cops are actively collaborating with Everton to analyse surveillance footage and conduct lengthy witness interviews in order to determine whether an offence has occurred.
“Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Merseyside Police social media department via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook @MerPolCC or call the Merseyside Police contact centre on 0800 111 mentioning reference number 228 of 9 April 2022,” the force said.
