DETROIT, MI — Ford Motor Company will unveil its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck on April 26, CEO Jim Farley announced on Twitter Wednesday.
The manufacturer plans to host a ceremony that day at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan to commemorate the commencement of production and the subsequent start of customer deliveries.
“We will be honouring the team that created this fantastic vehicle and the fact that F-150 Lightnings are on their way to consumers across the country,” spokesperson Emma Bergg said in an email.
Bergg said the event will be livestreamed and will involve a select number of customers.
Ford has restricted Lightning reservations at approximately 200,000 vehicles, though executives have not yet disclosed the number of reservation holders who have converted to orders. According to the firm, more than 70% of Lightning reservation holders are new to Ford and pickups.
“I believe it is a game changer,” Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler said at a Bank of America presentation Wednesday. “We’ve seen an enormous amount of demand.”
Ford intends to construct up to 150,000 Lightnings per year by mid-2023, approximately quadrupling the initial capacity.
According to official EPA estimates issued last month, the pickup, which starts at $41,669 including freight, would have a battery range of up to 320 miles.
