Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for the iconic American rock band Foo Fighters, died on Friday, the band said. He was fifty years old.
“The Foo Fighters family is crushed by Taylor Hawkins’ terrible and untimely demise. His musical passion and contagious laughter will live on eternally in all of us “According to the band, in a statement. “Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we respectfully request that their privacy be respected during this unimaginably painful time.”
According to the band’s website, the band was slated to perform in Bogotá, Colombia, on Friday for the Festival Estereo Picnic, followed by Lollapalooza Brasil on Sunday. Additionally, the band confirmed Thursday that it will perform at the Grammy Awards in Las Vegas on April 3.
The manner in which he died was not divulged.
Foo Fighters were founded in 1994 by Dave Grohl, a former Nirvana drummer.
Hawkins, who was born in Texas, joined in 1997 after previously serving as drummer for the Alanis Morissette band and touring with the group in support of its 1997 album “The Colour and the Shape.”
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its inaugural year of eligibility last year.
The news of his death elicited an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow musicians on social media.

“God bless Taylor peace and love to his family and the band,” Ringo Starr tweeted.
Additionally, vocalist Ozzy Osbourne talked of Hawkins’ demeanour, stating that he was “really a lovely person and an incredible musician.”
