El-Sisi met with Abu Mazen on Monday.
Counsellor Ahmad Fahmy, the Egyptian Presidency’s Spokesman, said President El-Sisi welcomed Palestinian President Abbas to Egypt and reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding support for the Palestinians.
The President confirmed that Egypt welcomes hosting the Palestinian factions’ meeting in New Alamain City yesterday, in the presence of the Palestinian President, to complete the dialogue on various issues and dossiers to end division and restore Palestinian national unity.
The Palestinian President thanked President El-Sisi for holding this crucial meeting and for Egypt’s longstanding support of the Palestinian cause. President Abbas affirmed that the Palestinian factions are convening amid important regional, international, and ground developments. He noted that the summit is an opportunity to discuss national reconciliation strategies.
The group discussed how to coordinate positions on Palestinian concerns, including resuming the peace process. The two sides stressed the importance of preserving the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, continuing efforts to achieve lasting, just, and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, and establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian State along the June 4, 1967 lines, with Arab East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law, relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, and the Arab peace initiative.
