Bashar Al Assad met with President Sheikh Mohamed on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, and the topic of peace in the Middle East came up during their conversation.
The president and first lady of Syria, Bashar and Asma Al Assad, arrived on Sunday for a state visit.
The pair was honoured with a ceremony at the seaside venue Qasr Al Watan.
Mr. Al Assad and President Sheikh Mohamed were greeted with a performance of the Syrian national song and a salute from an honour guard.
Sheikh Mohamed said on Twitter that he had welcomed Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to the United Arab Emirates and that they had conducted “productive discussions” aimed at improving ties between the two nations.

Mr. Al Assad made his first trip to an Arab nation since the Syrian civil war started in 2011 when he visited the UAE in March.
Dr. Anwar Gargash, the President’s foreign advisor, has stressed the need of reintegrating Syria and its administration.

Mr. Al Assad hosted Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, in Damascus in January.
Last month, Sheikh Abdullah returned to Damascus after visiting earthquake-stricken districts in Syria and Turkey, where more than 50,000 people lost their lives.
Senior Emirati officials such as National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed attended the event on Sunday.
Syrian officials, including the country’s economic, information, and assistant foreign ministries, were also in attendance.
