Taylor Swift’s sick beats had Swifties down.
The Seattle Times stated that ‘Cruel Summer’ concertgoers at Lumen Field on 22 and 23 July danced, leapt and shook so violently that a seismometer measured a 2.3-magnitude earthquake.
Western Washington University seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach claimed Swift’s three-and-a-half-hour Lumen Field shows triple the seismic activity of ‘Beast Quake’.
Marshawn Lynch’s touchdown celebration against the New Orleans Saints in 2011 caused a magnitude 1 or 2 earthquake.
Thus, Caplan-Auerbach and other area seismologists are examining Swift’s Lumen Field set lists and data to see which songs cause higher seismic activity.
How do we compare a ballad to a danceable song? Is energy different? Caplan-Auerbach told Seattle Times.
Swift’s sold-out Eras tour began in March. On Friday, the Grammy winner performs in Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium. She performs six nights at SoFi Stadium in August.
The USGS has recorded two minor Southern California earthquakes in July.
Seismic sensors can detect natural and man-made activities, according to USGS spokesman Paul Laustsen.
Laustsen added that “highly unlikely that audiences would trigger an earthquake.”
However, he advised concertgoers to always be prepared for natural disasters.
“Earthquakes can happen anytime, and knowing what to do in any situation is wise,” Laustsen said.
