Season 2 of “Squid Game” finally has a release date on Netflix, and the platform has also announced the renewal of this popular Korean drama for a third and final season.
Season 2 will premiere on December 26, and the third season is set to air in 2025. The premiere date and the announcement of the final season were made via a video. Additionally, the show’s creator, director, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk, wrote a letter to fans expressing his excitement: “I am thrilled to see the seed planted to create a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit until the end of this story.”
Lee Jung-jae will return to star alongside returning actors Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.
New cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
The official description of Season 2 states: “Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find those responsible for the game and end their cruel sport. Using his fortune to finance his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious place: looking for the man in the suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally bear fruit, the path to dismantling the organization proves more dangerous than expected: to end the game, he must return.”
Kim Ji-yeon is also an executive producer of “Squid Game” alongside Hwang. Firstman Studio produces the series for Netflix.
The first season of “Squid Game” is the most-watched television season in Netflix history.
The series received 14 Emmy Award nominations and won six awards. Among them, Hwang won the award for Best Director for a Drama Series, Lee won Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Lee You-mi won Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
