Lexi Thompson received a tribute from Nelly Korda following her announcement that she would be retiring from professional golf at the conclusion of the season.
Thompson is retiring at the young age of 29, but her career has been lengthy and storied, commencing at the age of twelve. This week, she will make her 18th appearance at the US Women’s Open in Lancaster.
In recent years, Korda, the world’s number one golfer, has partnered with Thompson to represent the United States in the Solheim Cup. She believes that Lexi will have an enduring influence on the LPGA Tour.
“I believe she has had an extraordinary career.” Korda, who is seeking her seventh victory in eight starts this week, stated, “I have had the opportunity to be on the team with her on a few occasions, representing our country.”
“I believe that she performs exceptionally well during the Tour.” She devotes an inordinate amount of time to attending each Pro-Am celebration. She devoted a significant amount of time to the expansion of the game. It is disheartening to observe that she is departing and will no longer be present with us. However, she has achieved an extraordinary career, and I extend my best wishes to her in this new chapter of her life.
Korda holds the US Women’s Open in high regard, as it was the site of her début at a major championship at the age of 14. The 25-year-old is currently experiencing a run of form that is creating history, and he is prepared to “risk it for a biscuit” in order to end a long wait for his first national open title.
Korda expressed her sentiments regarding the 2013 US Women’s Open, stating, “I would say obviously, gosh, playing against the best players in the world.”
“I had the opportunity to participate in practice rounds with Michelle Wie and Na Yeon Choi, as well as to hit balls next to Lydia and Inbee Park. Additionally, I was able to do so with my sister.” In my opinion, that was the most exceptional experience.
“Prior to that, I am uncertain; I believe that my sister’s initial U.S. Open was in 2008, and I attended each and every one of them.” I was akin to the most enthusiastic supporter. She snuck me into the locker room on multiple occasions, and it was an incredibly amazing experience. It was a delightful experience to perform the task independently.
“I recall that on Sunday, I narrowly missed making the cut due to a single number. I struck a driver, and it was akin to a hole in the ground where a donation to a specific charity was made if an eagle was achieved.”
“I hit the ball to approximately 10 feet, and I sank the putt. Subsequently, I was interviewed.” I stated, “You must take a chance in order to obtain the biscuit.” That’s one of the primary things I recall from my U.S. Open experience.
