In the framework of the second summit of the Russian-African Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which concludes today, Friday, in St. Petersburg, Russia, Russian and African experts will discuss methods to strengthen joint cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
Ruslan Edilgrave, Advisor to the Russian President and Special Presidential Representative for Climate Issues, and Amgad El-Wakil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Nuclear Energy Authority, participated in the session, which was held under the title “Nuclear Technology for the Development of the African Region” within the framework of the axis relating to cooperation in the science and technology sector.
Ruslan Edelgrave noted out that Africa’s population exceeds one billion, and that by 2050, the continent’s population will triple and account for one-third of the global population. But development is impossible without consistent access to energy sources and the development of energy systems.
Experts at the session agreed that acquiring technology that guarantees energy security, ensures sustainable development in various economic sectors, and enhances each country’s scientific and human capabilities is one of the most important strategic tasks in the modern global system.
