The expansion strategy of Rowad Modern Engineering for Egypt and the Gulf regions was recently disclosed by CEO Mohamed Mahlab. New investments are part of the strategy in the industries, general contracting, and infrastructure. These days, the public sector—both locally and abroad—provides 35% of the company’s business volume, with the private sector accounting for 65% of it.
Container terminal at Tahya Misr
Mahlab said that the “Tahya Misr 1” container terminal project at Damietta Port has a contractual cost of about $110 million for the superstructure construction. The project is supposed to be done in 18 months, and operational testing will start this May as soon as the first phase is completed in 10 months.
Sustainability Opinions
The 750,000 square metre project has already started and includes many port service buildings. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the investment arm of the World Bank, provide funding for it. Thus, during the project, all environmental and sustainability criteria as well as the local environmental circumstances will be closely followed.
Within Saudi Arabia, expansion
SAR 800 million worth of projects have been secured by Rowad Modern Engineering in the Saudi market. In 2024–2025 the firm wants to make SAR 1 billion. The Red Sea Museum in old Jeddah has been restored, as have the commercial project in Diriyah and the Rabigh Power Plant. The business has finished the officially launched Tarek Abdul Hakim Museum refurbishment in old Jeddah.
Mahlab said: “We have a solid branch in Saudi Arabia, and things are going well there with a lot of room to grow and expand. We are prepared to apply for any new projects that fit our area of competence, he declared. Being a very big nation, Saudi Arabia experiences sporadic economic success. Still, its biggest asset is its size and population, which make it a target market for growth in the upcoming years, as per the Vision 2030 plan. Together with Saudi Vision 2040, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is dedicated to fulfilling a number of its international obligations, including Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup in 2034.
He emphasized the intentions of the business to grow internationally. Their company outside Egypt already accounts for around 25% of their total, but they want to boost that to 40% or 50% in the next year. As part of this approach, they are opening its ninth branch outside of Egypt in Abu Dhabi.
Construction Service Exports
Exporting building services is very important, according to Mahlab. Through strong cooperation with Egyptian embassies overseas, the firm takes advantage of prospects presented by Egypt’s significant national initiatives. A construction renaissance has been sparked by these projects, and Egyptian construction companies are now prepared and skilled to carry out large-scale projects outside.
“We are happy to be a part of the Egyptian strategy in exporting construction services,” he said. Egyptian embassies overseas help contractors effectively and have allowed us to take advantage of a lot of chances throughout the last ten years. Because of the massive national projects Egypt has seen recently—the biggest building renaissance in modern history—more firms are operating and their competence is growing. The reputation, experience, and preparedness of Egyptian construction companies to carry out large projects outside of Egypt have grown. One significant kind of support, in my opinion, is giving Egyptian construction enterprises chances together with confidence and assistance in carrying out national, industrial, and infrastructural projects.
Mahlab thinks that projects like Ras El Hekma will be advantageous for all involved parties and that Egyptian contractors, whether they work as general contractors or subcontractors, have great prospects even in the face of intense competition.
Transport Business
Participating in a number of transportation projects, Rowad Modern Engineering has worked with Dubai Ports (DP World) and the Ain Sokhna Port project. Notably, a collaboration of four Egyptian enterprises is carrying out the Third Ring Road project in Libya, which includes many bridges. This €1 billion project started to be implemented earlier this year.
Sector Industrial
The firm works on important projects both inside and beyond Egypt in the industrial sector. In heavy industry, they are experts.
Processing of Steel
The Suez area project being carried out by Rowad Modern Engineering is the first of its sort in the Middle East. This steel plant is supposed to generate 800,000 tons of steel a year, which is necessary for railroads. Their reduction of imports and provision of locally produced steel help Egypt become self-sufficient. In addition, the business has successfully built a Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) facility in Sadat City, a ground-breaking endeavor in the Middle East and the Egyptian market.
Pharmaceutical production
Working with EIPICO, Rowad Modern Engineering is now building a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. In the realm of biopharmaceuticals, this study is unique. Building these plants as part of the contractual work done by Rowad Modern Engineering will cost more than EGP 10 billion.
Sector Energy
Energy-related initiatives have been conducted by Rowad Modern Engineering. These comprise work on the 4800 MW Beni Suef Combined Cycle Power Plant in Egypt and the Saudi Arabian Rabigh Power Plant. The business also built wind farms at Ras Ghareb and Ataqa and is actively involved in Saudi Arabian wind farm bids.
Building of Silos
Mahlab continued by saying that his business is making good work on building a 100,000-ton grain silos complex at the Port Said harbor. Probably, in the last 20 years, Egypt has not seen a project of this nature.
Sector of Special Buildings
Rowad Modern Engineering has a long history and a wealth of expertise developing specialized structures that go beyond conventional frameworks, such as hospitals and educational institutions. Especially, they completed the Olympic Multi-Sports Hall in the city. The firm also boasts an impressive history in the monument restoration industry. Mahlab mentioned that their three specialised subsidiary firms are centered on foundations and deep piling, specialised construction operations, and insulation services.
