Riots in Sweden..
There are protests in Sweden because of rallies by an anti-Islam group that are going to be held.
Helsinki, Finland (AP) – This is how it works: HELSINKI Swedish police say they used warning shots to break up a riot in an eastern city. The protesters were angry about anti-Islam protests in Sweden by a Danish group. Three people were slightly hurt during the fights.
Police and police cars got hit by about 150 people who threw stones and set fire to cars. People in the city of Norrkoping, which has about 130,000 people and is about 160 kilometres (100 miles) southwest of Stockholm, were hit by ricochets and taken to the hospital, police say.
On the other hand, none of the three people who got hurt were seriously hurt, the police said.
An TT photographer at the scene said that several riot police officers could be seen carrying a man who was hurt to an ambulance with them.
After Danish far-right politician Rasmus Paludan met with people and planned to burn the Koran in several Swedish cities and towns since Thursday, there was a riot in the streets.
Swedish media say that Paludan and his Stram Kurs party had planned a protest in Norrkoping on Sunday, but he didn’t show up in person. In the nearby city of Linkoping, there were also reports of trouble.
He said on the party’s Facebook page that he decided to cancel the demonstrations in the two places on Sunday because the Swedish authorities in the area have decided not to allow them “They have shown that they can’t protect themselves or me at all. If I got hurt or killed because the police didn’t do their job well enough, it would be very sad for Swedes, Danes, and other northerners.”
As well as in Norrkoping and Linkoping, unrest and violence have been reported in Stockholm, Orebro, Landskrona, Malmo, Sweden’s third-biggest city, and a few other cities in the past three days.
Violence broke out in the central Swedish city of Orebro on Friday night, just before Paludan planned to burn a Quran there. 12 police officers were hurt, and four police vehicles were set on fire.
Stones were thrown and tyres and dustbins were set on fire in Landskrona in the south of Sweden. Most of the people who took part were young, and they were mostly men. They also put up a barrier fence that blocked traffic on Saturday night. A city bus was set on fire in the nearby town of Malmo late Saturday, among other things.
It was set up by Paludan, a Danish lawyer who also has Swedish citizenship. Stram Kurs, or “Hard Line,” was started in 2017 by Paludan. Stram Kurs, which opposes immigration and Islam, says on its website that it is the most patriotic party in Denmark, which is true.
