UNITED STATES OF AMERICA — NEW YORK — This year, Ram plans to reveal a concept for its electric 1500 pickup truck.
The Stellantis truck brand has released a few renderings of what its first battery-electric pickup truck could look like, but the company is preparing to take the next step with a live concept ahead of the truck’s scheduled 2024 release, according to Ram CEO Mike Koval.
Koval stated that the company is consulting the public on the design of the electric pickup truck through its Ram Real Talk Tour, which includes conversations with consumers at various events. According to the brand, these interactions will aid it in determining what the next generation of Ram pickups and vans “must do to meet their needs.”
Koval announced last summer that a battery-electric 1500 was in development, adding another competitor to the burgeoning electric pickup market.
“A significant amount of our Ram Real Talk feedback has influenced that design,” Koval told Automotive News at the Detroit auto show. “That design will then have an effect on the product that we bring to market, so everything is connected.” There is a strategy.”
By 2025, Ram claims to offer fully electrified solutions in the majority of the segments in which it competes. The brand anticipates having a fully electrified portfolio by 2030.
By 2024, competitors such as the GMC Hummer EV and Ford F-150 Lightning will be two years old. Chevrolet Silverado EV production begins next year.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated in January that the company will take advantage of its later entry into the electric pickup segment.
“We are preparing the EV pickup trucks for 2024 by adjusting the specs and performance in response to what we see coming from our competitors,” Tavares said during a Morgan Stanley fireside chat. “It is true that we are closing in on them.
“However, it is also true that we have the ability to tailor the competitiveness and appeal of our own trucks to the work they perform, which is a competitive game, which is a fantastic situation for the consumer, because the true winner of this competition is the consumer.”
