The footballing world has rallied around former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, who just disclosed he had cancer.
The current Netherlands coach, 70, revealed on Sunday’s Humberto that he is undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Van Gaal denied informing his squad of his illness.
“I don’t think you should inform individuals you work with because it can impact their decisions,” he stated. “Prostate cancer does not kill you in 90% of instances.
“Other underlying disorders generally kill you. But I had a bad form and got irradiated 25 times. Then you have to manage your way through life.”
Former clubs, players and teammates have rushed to his aid, with Manchester United tweeting: “Everyone at Manchester United is entirely behind our former manager, Louis van Gaal, in his struggle against cancer. Strong wishes for Louis.”

Louis Van Gaal declared on Dutch television today that he is battling prostate cancer.
Van Gaal is a seasoned coach in Europe, having won major championships in his home Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and England.
There are two LaLiga titles with Barcelona, four Eredivisie titles with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, one Bundesliga title at Bayern Munich, and the 1995 Champions League with Ajax.
He has also coached the Dutch national team three times, guiding them to third place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
He will lead the Oranje in this year’s first winter tournament in Qatar, where they will face the hosts, Senegal and Ecuador.
He had previously stated he will stand down after the competition, with Ronald Koeman anticipated to take over.
