The director of Moon Knight, Mohamed Diab, has commented on the likelihood of the Fist of Khonshu receiving a second season on Disney+.
During an interview with ArabicMarvel, Diab was asked if the decision to have Moon Knight consist of six episodes was his own or if Marvel Studios forced him to do so.
“Marvel had determined [the number of episodes] from the first day,” Diab added. With the exception of special initiatives like WandaVision, all Marvel series consist of six episodes. Typically, there are six episodes.”
“Loki is the only series announced to be split into two segments from the beginning. It is not typical for Marvel to renew a series for a second season if a production is successful. Whether successful or not, he concluded, they have a plan.
This is not the first time Diab has discussed a possible second season of Moon Knight. In 2022, he disclosed he has plans for Marc Spector’s alter ego Jake Lockley, stating, “I want to see his world. Everyone is so intrigued by him, and I want to know what occurs between his blinks, who he is, what he loves, and who he loves. I find it very fascinating.”
Later that year, Oscar Isaac appeared to affirm he was in discussions with Marvel regarding Season 2, stating, “There have been specific dialogues [about Moon Knight Season 2]. They were amicable. The leaking of the details has revealed that there are no details. We do not know [if a second season will be produced], but we are discussing it.”
Isaac would later clarify that he did not know if Season 2 would be produced, but that he hoped Marvel would approve it.
Moon Knight will likely return to the MCU.
Kevin Feige, president and chief creative officer of Marvel Studios, revealed in February that Moon Knight will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stating, “The fun thing about streaming is that [the programs] are there eternally, and people can keep re-exploring them. Moon Knight, identical. I believe that character has a future as we progress forward.”
As of now, it’s not yet known when or where in the MCU the fan-favorite Marvel Comics antihero will show up, though “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” writer Jeff Loveness purportedly teased that Moon Knight and Daredevil would be in the upcoming film. Neither Disney nor Marvel have, however, officially confirmed this.
