What Jones said
Jones stated, “I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford family, the city of Detroit, my teammates and coaches.” “I am leaving the team to take care of family matters.
Although this was difficult, I cannot be the person/player this team needs and care for my family from afar. This group has always supported me and my family, and this is no exception.
I appreciate that. My brothers and coaches, I will support you throughout! The year is arrived! Go get it!”
Is this surprising?
On Saturday, the organization confirmed Jones would miss Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens due to personal issues.
Coach Dan Campbell was asked Monday if Jones’ absence will be long-term.
Right then, he had no answer.
“Hard to say on that right now,” Campbell remarked. “All I can say is it’s personal. No big deal, but that’s where it is now.”
Now we have one. The team released him Tuesday afternoon. Lions staff writer Colton Pouncy
Its impact on Detroit
Jones joined the Lions this offseason on a one-year contract.
He played for the team before, therefore this was a reunion. Jones started the season but eventually lost his offense role.
His season total is five receptions for 35 yards on 10 targets.
With Jameson Williams back from suspension, snaps decreased.
Although the Lions will miss his experienced leadership, they have enough at WR to move on.
Detroit has Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, Williams, and rookie Antoine Green at receiver. Dylan Drummond, a rookie undrafted free agent, may be considered. — Weak
