Pinkett Smith In an interview with NBC News, the actress and talk show presenter confessed, “We live separately,” but it does not mean they are divorced.
Rumors concerning one of Hollywood’s most renowned couples have finally been debunked: Jada Pinkett Smith, the actress, has acknowledged that she and Will Smith had been separated but not formally divorced for approximately seven years.
Pinkett Smith, who also hosts a talk show, revealed the news in an interview with NBC News, excerpts of which aired on Wednesday. The interview is part of a media tour Pinkett Smith is doing to promote the release of her new memoir, “Worthy.”
Pinkett Smith stated in an interview with Hoda Kotb from Baltimore that would be aired in full in a prime-time program on Friday that she and Smith decided to live different lives in 2016. The detail is one of the revelations in the memoir, which will be released on October 17.
“Why it fractured — that’s a lot of things,” Pinkett Smith remarked of her relationship with Oscar winner Will Smith. “I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.”
It was as if “we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she said.
After being married in 1997, the couple started a high-profile family and became one of the longest and most famous celebrity pairings. Together, they’ve raised two talented kids: Jaden Smith and Willow Smith.
There has been speculation regarding the health of their almost 26-year marriage for quite some time. Pinkett Smith addressed rumors that she and Will Smith were in an open relationship in a 2013 Facebook post, when she referred to their relationship not as “open” but as “grown.”
More intimate facts of their marriage were revealed in an episode of Pinkett Smith’s talk program Red Table Talk that went viral in 2020. Pinkett Smith said at the time that she had a “entanglement” with singer August Alsina after she and Will Smith split up for a while. “You and I were going through a very difficult time,” Pinkett Smith told Smith.
Smith said, “I was done with you,” meaning that he and his ex-girlfriend were officially over and going their separate ways. “I thought for sure that this was the end of us.”
The observed estrangement between the pair, upon closer examination, seems to have been more enduring than first represented, despite their ongoing reaffirmation of their devotion to each other as partners over the years. The actress expressed her decision to withhold information from the public, citing the growing nature of their connection as the reason for their lack of readiness. How can we effectively communicate this information to individuals? The speaker expressed that the aforementioned realization had not been made by the individuals involved.
The focus on their relationship intensified during the 2022 Academy Awards event, whereby Smith physically struck comedian Chris Rock on the stage during the live broadcast subsequent to Rock’s jest over Pinkett Smith’s haircut. The incident, which elicited astonishment among viewers and generated much discussion to the extent that it acquired the moniker “The Slap,” prompted organizers to impose a ten-year prohibition on Smith’s attendance at the Oscars.
The couple has been living apart since 2016, but, they have not initiated legal proceedings for divorce. I have made a commitment to ensure that our marriage remains intact, with the intention of preventing any circumstances that may lead to a dissolution of our union. Pinkett expressed her willingness to address any challenges that may arise throughout the course of their work, as stated in the NBC interview teasers. I have so far been unable to fulfill that commitment.
