Summary
Grantchester..
When Geordie and Will realized they may have made a big mistake in a case, the seventh season of Grantchester came to an end last night, April 15, leaving many viewers wondering if there will be a new season. It has proven to be a huge hit since it was broadcast on ITV in 2014. The ITV hit crime drama was filmed in a number of locations throughout Cambridge and is currently airing on the channel.
In last night’s episode of Grantchester, which served as the series’ grand finale, Geordie and Will were tasked with solving one final case of the season after another homeless man was discovered to have been murdered. After he was presumed dead in the same manner as previous victims DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) and Reverend Will Davenport (Tom Brittney), the police officers and clergymen quickly discover that they may have sent the wrong person to prison.
The episode from last night focuses on uncovering the truth as the two protagonists race against the clock to find the real killers and put a stop to the crime in the town. In another scene from the episode, Will swears he will not fall in love, but after hearing a comment from Professor Larson, his thoughts quickly return to romance, according to Birmingham Live.
But, with the current season of Grantchester coming to an end, is there going to be an eighth season, and if so, when might it be available? Here’s what you need to know ahead of tonight’s season finale.
Will there be a second season of Grantchester on the ITV network?
ITV has not yet confirmed whether or not Grantchester will return for a season eight. Series star Robson Green, however, has revealed that the network has “given the green light on negotiations” for a possible third season of the hit crime drama.
In an interview with Radio Times published last week, the actor stated that the cast members were “open to negotiations” for a second season of Grantchester. “We’re open to negotiations, so they’re planning season eight,” he explained.

“WGBH and ITV would welcome the opportunity to do another series.” Just [making sure] that everyone else is on board as well, including Charlotte [Ritchie], Tom [Brittney], and the rest of the cast and crew.”
“It’s clear that there’s a demand for another season of Grantchester,” he concluded. It remains to be seen whether or not it will materialize, but the green light has been given to begin negotiations, to put it another way. “I’d say it’s on the amber side.”
Due to the fact that ITV has not yet confirmed a new series, there is no official release date for Grantchester season eight at this time. The current series began filming in July 2021, with the first episode premiering in March 2022. The next season will premiere in July 2021.
With that in mind, it is likely that any future seasons will follow a similar timeline, with approximately eight months between the start of filming and the end of the season. So keep an eye out for the filming crew as they make their way back to Cambridge in the near future for the possibility of another Grantchester episode being filmed there.
