Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian activist, has been awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize for Peace in the year 2023.
The announcement made by the Nobel Prize committee on Friday declared Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights campaigner, as the recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize for Peace.
According to the Nobel Committee, Mohammadi was bestowed with the medal in recognition of her advocacy for women’s rights within the context of Iran.
Mohamadi is now incarcerated in Iran, where he is serving a prison sentence of 31 years. Additionally, he has been subjected to a corporal punishment of 154 lashes.
According to Reiss-Andersen, a member of the Nobel Prize Committee, the laureate was recognized for her efforts in combatting the subjugation of women in Iran, as well as her advocacy for the advancement of human rights and universal freedom.
Reiss-Andersen emphasized that the award serves as acknowledgment for the many Iranian women who have actively protested in support of women’s rights over the preceding year.
