During the celebration of World Hepatitis Day in Cairo, Professor of Liver and Gastroenterology at Cairo University Ahmed El-Kurdi said that Egypt will get a licence from the World Health Organisation (WHO) next September saying that it is free of hepatitis C.
It’s important to note that this award is the first one given to a country after it beat a dangerous virus, even though the country was one of the most affected by the virus in the world.
On World Hepatitis Day, he said that the president’s plan was the key to getting rid of the hepatitis C virus.
El-Kurdi said that as part of this effort, doctors worked to treat people sick with the C virus that is linked to the “AIDS” virus. He said that there is a special centre for treating these kinds of patients.
He said that Egyptian doctors took care of 4 million people during the presidential effort, which was called “100 Million Health” after a poll of 62 million Egyptians. The patients were treated with Egyptian medicines.
He said that if there hadn’t been political backing and political will, Egypt would have never been able to reach this point.
