LOS ANGELES, CA — The certified pre-owned programme of American Honda Motor Co. will now encompass Honda and Acura vehicles older than 10 years.
Younger car buyers on a budget should be attracted to dealer lots by the new extended HondaTrue Used and Acura Precision Used programmes.
For Dan Rodriguez, manager of auto remarketing at American Honda: “We wanted to make it easy for new purchasers to experience our brand. When it comes to attracting new customers to our brand, we see this expansion as a gateway product,” says the company’s CEO.
While newer Hondas have no mileage restrictions, older models are only covered by a 100-day or 5,000-mile manufacturer warranty. To put that in perspective, HondaTrue Certified Plus and Certified vehicles provide powertrain coverage of seven years/100,000-miles for lightly used, current model year vehicles and two to five years old Hondas.
For a period of six months and 7,500 miles, Precision Used Acuras are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
A 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty is included with Acura Precision Certified vehicles up to six years old or 80,000 miles old.
However, the extended certified programmes are designed to provide purchasers confidence in the pre-sale process, knowing that their older vehicle has been certified by Honda mechanics.
Customers can study a TrueUsed vehicle’s 112-point inspection checklist online.
In order to ensure that the car meets a specific quality, Rodriguez said, “We’re going through a comprehensive checklist.” As an example, he cited brake pads. A set criteria for brake pad wear must be observed by technicians, and if they fail to meet that standard, new brake pads must be installed.
