After initially denying the existence of any issues, HMRC has now acknowledged that there is a problem with child benefit payments. Due to the fact that they had not received their payments, thousands of parents lodged complaints over the weekend.
The agency acknowledged that they had received the reports; however, they issued a statement on Monday morning stating that there was no issue and advising individuals to verify their bank accounts. They issued an update an hour later, acknowledging that they were “aware that some customers’ child benefit payments have not arrived.”
The initial statement stated, “The child benefit system is not affected.” Payments are not actual due until Monday or Tuesday, despite the fact that they may materialize in customers’ accounts over the weekend. After the weekend, we recommend that consumers review their accounts.
However, this was promptly followed by a subsequent statement that stated, “We are aware that some customers’ child benefit payments have not arrived and we are currently working to resolve the issue.”
If you are responsible for the upbringing of a child under the age of 16, or under the age of 20 if they are enrolled in an approved educational or training program, you are eligible for the child benefit. The child benefit is available to only one individual; however, there is no restriction on the number of children that can be claimed. Typically, a parent receives an allowance for each child every four weeks; however, it may be paid on the weekend.
The delay has been the source of fury. “So awful,” stated a reader of WalesOnline. The fundamental child benefit is not being received by all of these parents. Some individuals also experienced their first day back at school. I am confident that they have successfully withdrawn funds from individuals’ accounts if they are owed any money.
An additional representative stated: “Mine goes in every Monday without fail, it’s due date and nothing there, usually in just after midnight but here we are after 8am and nothing so there clearly is an issue somewhere.”
One individual stated, “There must be a problem, as there are still so many individuals who have not received it!” They are due today, and we have yet to receive them.
However, other individuals stated that they had received the payment they anticipated. One individual indicated: “I’ve had mine, went in at 12 on the dot last night.” Additionally, another individual stated, “I inserted mine this morning.”
