Lo, who was born in Hong Kong and studied at London’s Royal College of Art, said he knew he wanted to be a designer from an early age, when his father began taking him to car races.
“This is truly a dream come true for me, to be able to oversee such a large design team at one of the world’s largest automobile businesses,” he said.
He cites Peter Stevens, a former Lotus chief designer and one of his lecturers at the Royal College of Art, as a mentor and claims he takes inspiration from close friends.
“As designers, we must constantly maintain an open mind,” he explained. “I make an effort not to limit myself to the automotive world. Every aspect of life is connected. You must grasp what is happening in many industries, such as fashion or architecture — how cities will be built in the future and how we can connect them into various systems.”
Lo now divides his time between Detroit and Paris, where his family continues to reside. His garage is home to a Mustang Mach-E and a Mustang Mach 1, which he uses to commute to Ford’s Cologne design headquarters.
