Starting this month, residents of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland will have the option to purchase a monthly membership from Meta, which will eliminate the advertisements that usually clog users’ newsfeeds.
Users with the ad-free subscription will not only be able to browse without advertisements, but they will also be able to do so without what is known as “behavioral tracking,” which should allay privacy worries that Facebook has been facing for some time—at least for users in Europe.
In actuality, Meta claims that the choice to provide an ad-free membership was made in order to comply with changing European laws.
The business will keep making money since Meta charges users of its main platforms €9.99 (web) or €12.99 (iOS and Android) each month to access ad-free versions.
According to Meta, the user account center’s membership costs will initially pay for all related accounts.
However, for every subsequent account, the price will rise by an extra €6 per month beginning of March 1, 2024.
