This year, Egypt’s exports of food and other goods set new marks. El-Koseir, the Minister of Agriculture, said that agricultural exports had gone over 5 million tonnes for the first time since the start of the year. This was a rise of 760 thousand tonnes over the same time last year.
The minister said that for the first time in the history of Egyptian exports, citrus exports went over 1.9 million tonnes and potato exports came close to 900 thousand tonnes for the first time. The total amount of agricultural exports from January 1, 2023 to July 26, 2023 was about 5.15 million tonnes, compared to 4.255 million tonnes during the same time last year.
Egypt’s most important agricultural products are “citrus fruits, potatoes, fresh onions, sweet potatoes, pomegranates, garlic, strawberries, beans, guavas, tomatoes, grapes, and mangoes.”
