July 30 was World Day against Trafficking in Persons for Egypt and its UN partners.
NCCPIM&TIP Chair Ambassador Naela Gabr gave a taped address on social media to commemorate the day.
Ms. Cristina Albertin, UNODC Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mr. Eric Oechslin, ILO Cairo Country Office for Egypt and Eritrea, also spoke.
According to UN Egypt, the World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed globally on 30 July to raise awareness of a crime that affects victims and society.
This year’s theme, “Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind,” emphasises finding, protecting, and supporting victims and abolishing impunity.
With this theme in mind, NCCPIM&TIP, ILO, IOM & UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA), with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the United States Department of State, and the European Union (EU), conducted a joint online awareness-raising campaign on social media highlighting the various forms of trafficking, how to get help, and the importance of reporting.
UN partners also visited Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, and Fayoum Governorates. They gave sensitise attendees awareness materials during these trips.
NCCPIM&TIP and the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s social women leaders conducted field trips to educate communities about human trafficking hazards and reporting processes.
