Egypt earned second and third places Tuesday in the Middle East’s largest oud-related music festival, which took place at the Music area of Riyadh Boulevard.
Turki Al-Sheikh, the General Entertainment Authority’s (GEA) chairman, announced the winners of the three-day “King of Oud” oud tournament, which included a hard struggle between ten players from various Middle Eastern nations, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Egypt’s Islam Taha claimed the title of King of the Oud, while Rakan Al Saed took second place. Another Egyptian young guy, Nagi Mohamed, came in third place.
The GEA’s executive director noted in a video that the competition offers an incredible opportunity for oud players from across the world to compete for the title of “King of Oud,” and that participants may apply by sending a video of themselves playing the instrument to [email protected].
“Waiting for all brilliant oud players from around the Arab world and the world,” Al-Sheikh tweeted.
According to the GEA, the competition aims to embrace and revitalise the Saudi community’s musical history through the instrument and traditional music.
