The winning numbers for Friday’s $1.28 billion Mega Millions drawing were 13-36-45-57-67 with a Mega Ball of 14.
The jackpot on Friday was the second-largest in the lottery’s 20-year history, with a cash value option of $742.2 million.
According to the lottery’s website, the next drawing will be held on Tuesday at 11:01 p.m. ET.
The record Mega Millions jackpot of $1.537 billion was won by a single South Carolina ticket in 2018. According to Mega Millions, this is the second-biggest jackpot for any US lottery game, but the world’s greatest lottery payout won by a single ticket.
The greatest jackpot of any US lottery game was $1.586 billion, which was won on January 13, 2016 by winners from California, Florida, and Tennessee in the Powerball game.
Timothy Schultz, who won $28 million in the Powerball jackpot in 1999 and now hosts a lottery podcast, told CNN that winning may “completely change your life.”
He stated that after checking his numbers in the newspaper and realising he had won, he immediately contacted attorneys and financial advisors.
“It may alter nearly everything, including relationships and your ability to survive,” he warned. “I believe it can purchase time, which can be priceless. And, you know, it’s one of the most strange life-altering events that could possibly occur.”
According to him, engaging with a financial consultant will be beneficial for people with no prior experience with millions, as the adviser will help the winners realise what they can really accomplish with their riches.
Before winning, Schultz did not consider himself to be materialistic, thus his most lavish expenditures were automobiles and real estate.
“For myself and many people I’ve met and interviewed, I’ve discovered that winning the lotto jackpot accentuates, or at least may magnify, one’s personality. It does not necessarily alter your identity “he said.
Despite the fact that he rarely plays the lottery these days, he did purchase one ticket for Friday’s drawing.
Mega Millions jackpots begin at $20 million for the annuitized prize and increase according on game sales and 30-year US Treasury interest rates. The probability of winning the jackpot is one in 302,575,350.
There are seven additional, less valuable prizes based on the number and kind of matching balls. The odds of winning a $1 million second-place prize are 1 in 12,607,306 if a ticket matches five white balls but not the Mega Millions ball.
Tickets for the Mega Millions lottery are available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Virgin Islands, with drawings held on Tuesdays and Fridays. In Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, tickets can be purchased online; however, the customer must be physically located in one of those states.
