Conor McGregor, the UFC’s lightweight champion, has been detained in his home Ireland on suspicion of reckless driving.
According to the Irish Independent, McGregor, 33, was pulled up the Garda on Tuesday evening while driving his Bentley Continental GT in West Dublin.
Following his arrest, the former two-weight world champion was charged and released on bail to appear at Blanchardstown District Court.
“Mr McGregor was travelling to the gym when he was pulled up by Garda for suspected traffic infractions,” McGregor’s spokeswoman told Reuters.
“He passed the station’s drug and alcohol tests.”
According to a statement sent to Sky Sports, “Garda detained a guy in his 30s in connection with a risky driving incident in the Palmerstown area last evening, Tuesday 22nd March 2022.
“The guy was arrested and subsequently charged at Lucan Garda Station. He has been discharged awaiting a further appearance at Blanchardstown District Court.”
McGregor has not competed in the UFC since July 2021, when he sustained a horrific leg break in the first round of his trilogy bout with fierce rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in Las Vegas.
Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, revealed last week that the Irishman would return to the octagon in the fall, pending the receipt of required medical clearances.
