China opened what is thought to be the world’s first hospital run by AI. Up to 3,000 patients will be treated every day by robot doctors.
This cutting-edge virtual hospital, called “Agent Hospital,” aims to save millions of lives by letting people connect with it on their own.
Researchers at Beijing’s Tsinghua University built this cutting-edge AI hospital, which will change the way healthcare is provided. It should be fully operating by the second half of 2024.
The start of the hospital comes after six months of hard work on research and development. It is expected to change how doctors identify and treat patients.
The Sun says that the hospital is getting close to being ready for use because AI technology is improving so quickly.
According to Liu Yang, the lead expert, the AI hospital would be very helpful for both doctors and people in general.
“AI doctors will be able to treat up to 10,000 patients within days,” Liu told the Global Times. “Thanks to its simulated environment and ability to evolve on its own.”
“To put this into perspective, it would take human doctors at least two years to reach the same numbers.”
Chinese experts have already shown that medical agents driven by AI are very accurate, with a 93.06% success rate on the MedQA dataset (US Medical Licensing Examination questions).
These virtual doctors can simulate all the steps involved in identifying and treating patients, such as consults, exams, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-ups. They can also model major respiratory illnesses.
