DeLorean Motor Co. Inc. announced plans to showcase its new all-electric DeLorean on Aug. 18 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance’s Awards Ramp.
The business shared a teaser shot of the concept car this week, displaying the vehicle’s rear taillight and left shoulder.
The business stated the prototype will be unveiled three days before relocating to the Concept Lawn on Aug. 21. August will also see the unveiling of the new generation of DeLoreans.
While the vehicle will be entirely new, it will incorporate elements from classic DeLoreans, such as gull-wing doors, DeLorean Motor CEO Joost de Vries told Automotive News.
The company intends to mass produce the car and is currently looking for a location for its plant in North America. Despite this, de Vries stated that the company hopes to begin delivering automobiles to customers by the end of next year.
Stephen Wynne has operated DeLorean Motor Co. LLC in Humble, Texas, for more than three decades as a service and restoration shop for classic DeLoreans.
DeLorean Motor Co. Inc. is a new company with new management based in San Antonio. Its primary objective is to develop the new model.
The new company is wholly funded by private equity, and de Vries declined to name any specific investors. It plans to raise further capital later this year.
The company currently employs slightly more than 100 people and plans to hire additional staff as production ramps up, with a target of at least 450.
“The public response has been phenomenal,” de Vries stated. “We’ve built an incredible brand; now we need to build an incredible product.”
