According to final EPA estimates released Monday, Ford Motor Co.’s F-150 Lightning electric pickup will have a battery range of up to 320 miles — 20 miles more than previously estimated.
The top-of-the-line range will be available on XLT, Lariat, and Pro trim levels that include an optional extended-range battery. Platinum trims, which include an extended-range battery as standard, will also get an additional 20 miles per charge, to a total of 300 miles.
Pro, XLT, and Lariat trims equipped with the standard-range battery will have an EPA-estimated range of up to 230 miles, consistent with previous projections.
Pro trims are available exclusively to fleet customers.
“We are laser-focused on continuously improving Lightning’s energy efficiency, and our team is ecstatic to deliver these results to our customers.” Linda Zhang, the F-150 Lightning’s chief programme engineer, stated in a statement.
The Lightning’s 320-mile range would fall short of GMC’s Hummer Edition 1 pickup’s 329-mile range, which went on sale late last year, but would surpass Rivian’s most efficient R1T pickup’s 314-mile range. Rivian intends to offer a Max battery pack configuration with an estimated 400 miles of range, but that configuration has been delayed until 2023.
Ford expects to begin delivering Lightnings within the next few weeks. It has capped reservations at approximately 200,000 vehicles, although executives have not yet disclosed the number of reservation holders who have converted to orders.
