Summary
Google is leveling up Gemini with a long-awaited feature: Scheduled Actions.
This new update brings agentic functionality to Gemini across Android, iOS, and web platforms, allowing users to automate tasks based on time or events — but only if they’re on a paid plan.
What Are Scheduled Actions in Gemini?
Google’s new Scheduled Actions feature lets users automate prompts to run at specific times or on recurring schedules.
That includes everything from daily productivity reminders, automated market summaries, to weekly workout plans — all without needing to manually ask Gemini each time.
To set one up, just tell Gemini what you want it to do and when.
For example:
“Every weekday at 8 AM, give me the top 5 global stock headlines.”
Once you’ve submitted the prompt, Gemini confirms it and schedules it to run automatically.
According to Google, actions are executed within an hour of the scheduled time.
Where to Manage Your Scheduled Tasks
You can view and manage all your active schedules in the new Scheduled Actions dashboard:
-
On mobile: Tap your profile icon and look for the Scheduled Actions section.
-
On the web: Go to the side panel under “Settings & Help.”
From there, you can:
-
Pause or resume scheduled actions
-
Delete them entirely
-
Edit the underlying prompt
-
Rename actions
-
Set custom recurrences (daily, weekly, or monthly)
The web version offers more advanced controls, ideal for refining complex routines.
Limitations and Availability
Currently, Gemini only supports up to 10 active scheduled actions per user — a fair limit while the feature rolls out.
However, Scheduled Actions are only available to paying users.
If you’re on a free plan, you’ll need to upgrade to access it.
Eligible plans:
-
Google One AI Premium (Gemini Advanced)
-
Google Workspace Business / Education plans with Gemini enabled
So if you’ve been waiting for this feature, now’s the time to consider upgrading.
How It Compares to ChatGPT
If you’re thinking this sounds familiar, you’re not wrong.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT already offers a similar scheduled tasks feature, and Gemini’s implementation seems heavily inspired by it.
Still, the addition is a welcome upgrade, especially for those who rely on Gemini to streamline their workflow.
Scheduled Actions bring Gemini one step closer to becoming a full-fledged AI assistant, capable of handling repetitive and time-sensitive tasks autonomously.
Whether you want daily insights, recurring reminders, or automated content delivery, the possibilities are broad — and bound to expand.
Now that AI is getting more “agentic,” it’s only natural that scheduled automation is part of the equation.
Gemini might have been a step behind, but this new rollout brings it closer to feature parity with the best in the game.
